How to get there |

The Greek island of Mykonos is situated in the centre of the Aegean Sea 150 kilometres east of Athens and is part of the group of islands known as the Cyclades. Although it is the most famous of this group it is actually the smallest, covering an area of about 90 square kilometres.
The island can be reached by air from Athens. If you prefer to travel by ship, you have a choice of ferries, flying dolphins, hydrofoils, or catamarans that leave from Piraeus and Rafina. The distance from Piraeus is 94 nautical miles and from Rafina 71 nautical miles. The trip by a "normal speed" ferry from Piraeus takes about 6 hours, while the respective one from Rafina takes about 5 hours, but there is a variety of faster vessels (high-speed ferries) to choose if you want to cut that time to almost the half. |

Mykonos has an airport, about 4km away from the main city. The airport has regular flights for Athens and Thessaloniki by Olympic Airways, Aegean Airlines and AirSea Lines.

Getting Around |

When the government made Chora an architectural landmark, they prohibited motorized traffic on its streets. Only a few small delivery vehicles are allowed. The only way to get around town is to walk. Many of the town\'s large hotels are found on the busy peripheral road. However, much of the rest of the island is served by a good transportation system.
During the high season, the K.T.E.L buses (tel: 22890 23360) have regular, frequently ? scheduled, routes to and from the countryside (Ano Mera etc.) and the majority of the islands? beaches. Departures, depending on the destination are from the two bus terminals on the north (Museum) and south side (Fabrika) of town.
The main TAXI stand is in the Mando Square, prices are ?fixed? for each destination. There is a 24 hours dispatching service: tel.:2289022400 and 228923700.
A wonderful means for visiting the beaches on the southern shore of the island are the ?CAIQUES? small boats that, departing from Platy-Yialos and Ornos, make regularly scheduled round trips as far as Elia beach, to the east.
Also you may visit by caiques the nearby historical island of Delos. The trip lasts about 25 minutes.
From Mykonos you can reach by boat the nearby islands Tinos, Paros, Andros, Naxos and also Santorini and Crete.
